Yeah, plywood isn't real refractory. I'm assuming you were using it to get the firebox bricks to line up with the warechamber which is up on blocks. The best thing to use is Durock or Wonderboard. They're about a half inch thick. There's another one that's about an eighth forget the name. They are a concrete board that is used in tile work.
15 hours is OK. If you want to go faster make sure your wood is as dry as possible. Makes a big dif.
