People near Penland......

Hey, I will be in the Penland and surrounding areas in August and was wondering if anyone would like to meet, show me around their studio/ kiln, and/or Possibly get a group together and fire or something. I will be assisting at Penland for two weeks from Aug. 9th - 22nd, but will be traveling around the area until the 30th/31st or so to visit studios and such. I would love to connect with some of you if you are in the area. Let me know what you think and if you are interested.

Hi Pamela,
Here's a good place to start- http://www.pottersoftheroan.com/
Also once you get up here, all the studios keep a stack of area studio maps. It lists almost all the craft studios in a 2 county area.
Come up to my place while your here. Have fun,
Mark

Great! Thanks, I will definitely come visit. Nice video by the way. Were you happy with the results? Do you think you'll be firing the end of August? The reason I am asking is b/c I have been awarded a grant to attend studios and part of my research is kilns and their firings.

Pamela,
Yes the results were very nice. You know how first firings go. Lot's of different people's pots. Lots of different clays and glazes.
I'm hoping to fire my kiln near the end of August. Come on up.

hi. well i will be firing my kiln with in that month. it is a cross draught catenary arch kiln. very, very similar to the one mark peters put a video on the site. however i live north of knoxville tennessee. so over 2 and a half hours. but if this interested you, you would be welcome. i could partially work around your schedule, since mine is very open. have fun at penland and touring around. i am sure you'll love it. york

Hello Pamela,
I know you’ll enjoy your time at Penland, and I’m sure you’ll be glad you have some extra time to tour around the area. So many potters and kilns to visit! I won’t be firing during the next few weeks but you are welcome to come up and visit and see the kiln, just let me know and we’ll find a time. I fire a moderate sized, catenary arch, cross draft wood/soda kiln. There is a great map of the local studios you’ll find at the school, as well as the "contact" page of my website www.williambakerpottery.com

Have Fun!
Will
