You'll have to add borax to the soda ash or bicarb of soda to get it to properly melt at cone 6. You'll find that a lot of the cone 10 flashing slips will work at cone 6.

I posted a picture of my cone 6R soda test tiles that John Britt fired in his soda test kiln two days ago. We both forgot about adding borax to the mix so the flashing slips are dryish; but we got good color. We'll re-fire them after the TRAC tour...
Gail she uses a claybody with at least 80% clay content, and an silica/alumina ratio below 3. The other secret is that she does a reduction cooling after she finishes spraying soda, to get that ice effect on her pots.

I used it in my last firing on a couple of small pieces and it was dry and pasty white on one pot pand flashed nicely on others. Use it quite thin though or it will crack. It may also need a good amount of soda.

Kiln firing
Got the soda kiln loaded yesterday, candled overnight and firing today. I put three pictures of the back, middle and front stacks on my blog at: http://www.shambhalapottery.blogspot.com
I made a lot of changes in the chimney (removed two layers), bag wall (raised and it altered the openings) and flues (reduced them to about 47sq in), so it may be an interesting firing. So far this morning, the temperature, top to bottom in this cross draft are dead even.
