Annual Father's Day weekend sale of soda, salt, and wood fired functional pots.
The lower level of our home has been converted to a gallery space and the sale will take place both there and outside in my yard.
Reasonable prices and lots of variety...
I use this slip on 95% of my pots. I use Highwater Clay's Zella Stone. I apply leather hard. Thicker application produces crackle. I tend to fire in oxidation to get it to look buttery, or butterlicious. Looks nice in reduction too, but can get to...
Hi Cory,
This is B-Mix for Wood.
I used this clay for a couple of years with very good results. The current rap on it seems to be that a lot of people are experiences severe cracking/dunting and warping. Our local supplier has stopped stocking it ...
I use this slip for fingerswiping, and have great results in salt/wood. if you look closely at the pictures of the 100 jugs you'll notice some with fingerswiped swirls and lines through this mixture. it tends to leave nice variation where thick an...
June,
Thanks very much for the photo and comment.
Hopefully, I don't have it on too thick. I just used it on about 15 pots, so hopefully, some will turn out.
It looks great on your bowl.
Bruce
I used it in my last firing on a couple of small pieces and it was dry and pasty white on one pot pand flashed nicely on others. Use it quite thin though or it will crack. It may also need a good amount of soda.
Here's a picture of one of pieces t...
Hi Folks,
Does anyone have any feedback on slip made from #6 tile clay and about 5% bentonite?
I use both Loafer's Glory and Standard #470 Wood Fire Clay and fire a noborigama with a light salt/soda chamber.
I have heard it works out well, but don...
I am working in a studio in The Plains, VA. There is a wood kiln here that was recently renovated and I just finished insulating the arch and am settin up some burner for it. I hope to fire the first week of Nov. I have a show the 13-15th of Nov. We will have to arrange a time to get together. Take care.
Just checking out your website and enjoying your surfaces. You are not to far away from me here in Manassas. I am planning a wood firing in the next couple weeks. Are you having anymore shows coming up at your home? I would like to check out your studio some time. Take care.

I am currently thinking about adding a slip, applied to leather hard pots, made from #6 tile clay with about a 3% addition of bentonite. I will use it in the salt/soda chamber of a noborigama.
Does anyone have any comments on this slip?
Thanks in advance.

I love loafers. No problem to cone 12 many times.Great to throw.Light peachy flashing all by itself. The jug that I posted is Loafers.Try it.
i really like loafers. i used little loafers when i fired to six because it did everything i wanted, threw great, i could play with it well, and really fired nicely. this summer i started using it in my wood kiln. and it looks good, with slip, glazes, i agree with keith great with shinos, and very pretty body with soda. so at any rate i like it. good luck. peace
Hi Bruce, I tried commenting on your discussion, but for some reason couldn't. I recently switched to Loafer's Glory from Helios porcelain as my primary clay body. Mainly because of the warm undertones, and doesn't "bleach" the colors of the glazes like the porcelain does. Left raw it flashes well, and shinos look great. Overfired (11/12) it's held up fine with no bloating or warping unlike the porcelain. Joy Tanner had a great blog post last year showing off Loafers in soda: http://joytannerpottery.blogspot.com/2008/06/sneak-peek.html
