Salt/Soda Firing

mmmmm....... Soda

How many of you will be attending NCECA in Phoenix this coming April? Do you think we should try to put together some sort of event or gathering? I'm thinking of (in the least) an expanded version of the breakout discussion last year in Pittsburgh that got this whole thing going. I'd be happy to start snooping around to find a place to gather...thoughts, anyone?

I'm about 85% sure that I'm going. If something like this was going on, it might push me over the edge! Let me know if there is anything I can do. I can also use my blog to advertise an event and to maybe bring in some other salt/soda folks into the conversations. Thanks for taking the initiative on this! -Emily

This sounds like a great idea! Unfortunately, I am unable to attend NCECA this year due to my financial situation. I was however, going to have some cards or something printed up to advertise this site. Maybe you could pass them out during your gathering. You'll also have to report back on how everything goes. Thanks for doing this! Wish I could help and attend.

Colleen Great idea...does anyone have any NCECA contacts to suggest that they do the same as last year and host a time for soda/salt , wood,....of course any salt/soda addicts should meet no matter what the official itinerary ends up to be....I'm still trying to figure out if I can convince the accountant.....got my fingers crossed to go.

David Hayashida here again.

1.) NCECA has a connections event on Friday 10th from 4:30pm to 6:00pm...I assume we could meet then (I have offered to NCECA to lead a salt/soda discussion at that time, but perhaps they aready have that in place?)

2.) In a perfect world we would meet on the first day, the 8th (some time/place) to maximize the amount of face to face networking during the conference for those who were really keen?

Needless to say I've finally decided to attend and would love the chance to chat with other salt/soda practitioners if they were interested.

Any other comments? Ideas? Who is going?

Hi David
Well, at least two of us will be there!
The Friday thing is good but I agree, a gathering earlier in the week would be great for more one-on-one. In my ideal world, we'd all meet up at a pub or somewhere we can float around and visit with each other, and maybe bring cups to exchange or examples of our work to see in person.
I will be at the Master Kiln Builders booth at the trade show for much of the week, so we could make that a central place for people to 'check in' and maybe meet up.

Thanks for the reply! It appears that I will be leading a friday salt/soda connections group but I will definitely meet with you on the 8th at your booth. I'll bring some samples or cups or something for sure. Can't wait!

I have an opening at that time and probably won't be able to make it, but please come by if you get the chance. The show I am in is in the Hyatt.

Well, my plans have changed at the last minute I will be able to attend after all. However, I don't have enough money to fly and actually register for the conference, so I don't know if I can meet inside, but I would love to meet outside somewhere. Let me know of any plans.
Thanks,
Pamela

I will be attending NCECA and would love to have a gathering with the salt/soda people. I will be meeting dave, linda, and tracy at the UMASS booth, i am currently a student there, on Apr. 7 at 1:00 p.m. I am in my first year for my masters and have been experimenting with electric, gas, etc. but want to return to soda. I would love to exchange ideas, recipes etc.

You can find me at the Master Kiln Builders booth. I'll have a sign in sheet there for people who want to meet up. Also be sure to attend the breakout session that David H is leading on Friday afternoon (see earlier posts).

In addition to Colleen's great idea of meeting is the other salt/soda event Friday 10 April NCECA Connections 4:30 to 6:00pm in room 103. I invite everyone who is interested in salt and soda to see a short powerpoint featuring new stuff from around the world: Phil Rogers, Ruthanne Tudball, Lisa Hammond, Maryke Henderson, Gertrude Graham Smith, Pamela Theis, Emily Murphy, Barbara Murphy, Arlynn Nobel, Bruce Cochrane, Gordon Hutchens, Cathi Jefferson, Mandy Parslow, Barbara Tipton, John Chalke, Jeff Oestriech, Isabella St. John...followed by a wide open discussion on salt and soda firing. Hope to see you all in person or that you'll send some people over to take in our exciting session.
